Women's and Children's Caps Workshop at
Valley Forge Education Center, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania

October 30, 2004 - 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.
Start with a round-table discussion of caps in the third quarter of the 18th century, look over images and patterns, and try on a wide variety of caps. Find the right one for you! Once your decision is made, you'll be able to make your own cap to take home that day. Workshop fee of $35 includes linen and tape for your cap. Participants bring lunch, thread, pins, needles, scissors and marking pencil

Stay-making Workshops at Jerusalem Mill
Gunpowder Falls State Park, Kingsville, Maryland

November 20 and 21, 2004 - 9 a.m. till 5 p.m.
March 12 and 13, 2005 - 11 a.m. till 4 p.m.

Each two-day workshop begins with round-table discussion on English-influenced stays in the 18th century, with emphasis on the third quarter (1760-1775). Each person will be measured and shown how to draft her own pattern, and making of the stays will commence. Workshop fee of $125 includes fabric and leather for binding. Boning will be available for a modest fee. Class size is limited to 10 participants

Four One-Day Basic Clothing sessions at
Brandywine Battlefield Park, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania

Shifts - January 15, 2005
Participants will be fitted for and construct a linen shift, the woman's basic undergarment. Discussion of shifts, how they are made and worn will precede the sewing workshop.

Caps - February 12, 2005
After a morning discussion, we'll try on many styles of caps and help each other pick and make the one that's right for the individual based on ethnic, cultural, social, economic and facial structural elements.

Petticoats - March 19, 2005
We'll make petticoats fitted to our individual bodies, after a roundtable discussion.

Shortgowns - April 2, 2005
The essential upper body garment of the working woman, shortgowns are simple to make and wear. Bring your shift, stays and shoes to this workshop - we'll measure ourselves and start sewing!
